The Death of Google Wave; or, Why We Can't Inhale and Exhale at the Same Time

TJ Cook's picture

by TJ Cook - Aug 12

" But despite these wins, and numerous loyal fans, Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects. "

I think it's hard for people to inhale and exhale at the same time.

And I think that's what Google Wave was asking us to do.

Tour de France

As this year's Tour de France once again winds down, many of us have had the opportunity to watch one of the most grueling races in history. The race requires endurance, focus, strategy, balance, along with, of course, tremendous athleticism achieved only through thousands of miles and years of training. A bit of luck (both good and bad) is also thrown into the mix, exemplified by the occasional bike crash, equipment malfunction, not to mention wondering sheep, haphazardly crossing the race course. As I watched much of the coverage via Versus, I was struck by the incredible beauty of the French Pyrenees and surrounding countryside. However, I am as limited as any spectator to the real appreciation of the unforgiving toughness of this mountainous course.

These services are built on a reliable media distribution network to ensure that valuable content is delivered successfully to us.

New Ways for Nonprofits to Raise Money Online

Kemper Barkhurst's picture

by Kemper Barkhurst - Jun 21

I recently set up an online donation form for Rio Grande Community Farm, a nonprofit organization where I serve as board member and volunteer. This PayPal donation form was static and made me wonder about the other ways in which nonprofits can raise money with online technologies. After a little research, I found a few new tricks by which nonprofits can connect and accept donations from their supporters. These methods extend beyond just online payments or joining a social network. Check out the new ways nonprofits can collect donations from a mobile device, a text message campaign (SMS), and even social networks.

iPhone 4 Announcement Reactions

We opened up discussing the iPhone 4 announcement, from two angles. First, that we are a bit discouraged by some of things that weren't announced at yesterday's keynote by Steve Jobs. For me, two biggies were another U.S. carrier wasn't announced, and that syncing over the air and using cloud technologies weren't discussed (ie, we still must connect to iTunes to do certain things).

Discover Your Sport

Image to sport equipment

How many of us have ever talked about trying a new sport or activity...one of these days? I know I have. I keep threatening to take up tennis, in-line skating, rock climbing someday...when I can find the time. Unfortunately, as we get older that someday never seems to materialize. Having been a runner for years, I'm not so easily persuaded to opt out of my daily trot down the road, in favor of an alternative activity.
